Dumaguete Fried Chicken (DFC)

One day in Dumaguete, we were tired of eating in restaurants. Aside from that, we were also running out of moolah. We also wanted to make the most of our Dumaguete trip and do as the locals do and eat as the locals do. So we asked a local what eatery shouldn't be missed. He answered, "DFC."

DFC stands for Dumaguete Fried Chicken and is the local version of KFC. I ordered their chicken and spaghetti combo at PhP63.

The chicken was so-so but juicy. Its batter wasn't that thick. It was crunchy but a little bland.

The spaghetti was weird for my taste. It was more of sour than it is sweet. Nevertheless, I consumed it. It is food afterall.

It isn't something I would want to return to but it was worth the experience of eating as the locals do. :)

Lee Cimbali

One morning, we had breakfast at Lee Cimbali. We like the millions of bread around us and the scent of freshly baked bread wafting around. I particularly remember blurting,"Am I in heaven?" :D

After having much difficulty choosing what to eat, I finally chose this...

and this...

Both were soft and delicious. My friend had the apple cinnamon which was also delicious.

Their brewed coffee was so-so.

The next day, I had their cheese bread, which is one foot long. It is not as amazing as I thought it to be. It would really have needed more cheese. But I like the idea of eating a one-foot bread. :)

My friend had this...

and this...

I can certainly live here. :)

Lab-as

After a day of walking, walking and walking, we had lunch at Lab-as. Because I saw large groupers at the Silliman Museum and thought how lovely it was to have some for lunch, we ordered some grilled lapu-lapu. We also had kinilaw, buttered chicken and steamed vegetables.

The kinilaw isn't really amazing. I find that in Payag Jo's Inato in Bohol better. But the kinilaw is a perfect partner to everything else we ordered. I like its texture and how it just melts in your mouth, and the spices that came with it. Yum yum.

The steamed vegetables was everyone's favorite. We all liked the free refill of ginamos that complemented the bland vegetables.

The buttered chicken wasn't also that amazing but it was plenty.

And the least favored was the grilled lapu-lapu. It was small and not tasty amidst the spices stuffed inside.

All in all, we had a very hearty lunch.

I would love to try the pizza at Hayahay sometime.

Chicken Ati-atihan

This chicken inasal/inihaw place is very popular in the Visayas.

We wanted to eat somewhere else but that establishment was still closed at an early hour of 8AM so we headed to Chicken Ati-atihan instead.

I had Grilled Pork Chop which arrived after an hour. :-| This just wouldn't do for hungry people. :-| It was plenty and tender but was basted with a lot of sauce. It's fine like it though. Maybe it was what made it tasty.
